Humans fall into coveting because we have a sin nature that is self-centered and justifies entitlement. Christians most often struggle with coveting out of a distorted view of God and a misunderstanding regarding identity as our perfect Father. We comply with this commandment when by faith we chose to believe in God’s perfect parenting skills and righteous benevolence toward His children.

During this teaching time we look at the psychology of a lie. What provokes this behavior, what reinforces this behavior, what is the ultimate fallout of this behavior etc… Why is honesty always the best policy? Are there grey areas when it comes to this commandment? Most people would say yes. However, when it comes to suffering personal loss by another person taking what’s “rightfully” yours and the cries begin. Biblically, what constitutes as stealing? What constitutes property? (physical, intellectual, copyrights, etc…)

Why is God so concerned over marital promises? What is really at stake when we fail to recognize the sacredness of holy matrimony, the special union between a man and a woman?

How could God give a command like this and then set a nation on course to annihilate other people groups? Is there a difference between killing and murder? What did Jesus mean when He taught about mankind’s capacity to kill with our words and speech?

Is this commandment relevant for adults? Should we just excuse everyone over 18 in the room to daydream, txt message or nap while I (Chris) teach to the teens? We think of experiences in terms of the progression of time. In other words, what is happening now happens first, and then what happens next comes next. We don't see what's next. We often fear what's next. We wonder what choices to make now to create a better outcome for what's next. And, the worst part of it all is when we cannot control what's next. There is an incredibly powerful reality to the fact that Jesus is right now in the present moment you live. But He is also simultaneously at the end of your issue, at the end of your trial, and even at the end of your life. Jesus is walking with you in the middle of your immediate moments, but is also living with you at the victory and solution of your troubles. The reality that Jesus lives beyond time can give us amazing hope that He is in fact sovereign over our days, and is a valid and victorious help to our immediate circumstances.

Jesus is identified in the scriptures as The Head of the Church. To a culture that is skeptical of organized religion, this should seem like good news to us. At the head of the real Church is not some group of political, power-hungry leaders. There is no scandal, no self-aggrandizing, no empire-building going on at the helm of the authentic Church. But that said, Jesus as the authentic head of His Body—of which you and I are a part—does call for some specific commitment and participation from each of us. We will explore what it means for us to step up to Jesus’ expectations of our life in the Body of Christ.

We’ve all heard that Jesus died to take care of our sins. It’s the most central and powerful truth of the Christ-story. But what if we understood much more deeply what that really means to us today? Beyond taking care of the penalty of sins, Jesus stands positioned and active to mediate each issue in your life, to intercede over your circumstances, and to be the safest person in the world to take your troubles and hurts to. What if we could discover the trust and practice of going to Jesus as our priest, who will care for and love over our issues?

To live in the fullness of our relationship with God, we need to understand seeking God as the means to dwelling in our rights and benefits as a child of God, thriving in the security of that relationship, basking in the goodness of His closeness, and benefiting from His transforming nature. If that sounds a little too warm and mushy for the masculine or the harder-edged soul, look at it from a more aggressive perspective. Dwelling close to God means being deeply connected to the most significant and transformative presence in the universe. The most powerful "William Wallace" of the universe is the Lord Almighty, the maker of heaven and earth. Dwelling close to Him is to live at the absolute point of the sword of all Strength and Power.

In part II of this series we continue to learn what it means to live in the fullness of our relationship with God. We learn about our rights and benefits as a child of God, how to thrive in the security of that relationship, how to bask in the goodness of His closeness, and benefit from His transforming nature.

This week we begin the first part of a new series entitled "The Full Gospel Part 1 - God's Perspective on Humanity" is all about how God sees us. God knows our story; God is in the business of making the common Holy; God is not repulsed by our brokenness. We will see how deep God's love is for us no matter where we are in our journey with Him.

The weight of our sin can overwhelm us and make us feel condemned. God's truth about sin is that He only sees us through the shed blood of His Son Jesus not based on the sins that we have committed. There is great freedom in this if we can grasp the truth in this statement.

Part 3 of this series is all about how in Christ we are made complete. We see in the scriptures that God wants to renew our minds, but what does that really mean and what are the steps that we have to do in order for this to happen to us?

Part 4 of "The Full Gospel Story" is all about how in Christ the Devil is a defeated foe. We will see how we develop a Biblical Worldview of Spiritual Warfare. Be ready for a brief crash course on Satan's M.O. and the simplicity of the Believer's battle plan.

This week we celebrate the Passover Seder, a traditional Jewish service and ceremonial dinner for the first night or first two nights of Passover. We explore what the Seder means to the Christian life. How God lead us out of bondage and slavery to sin.

In this service we take part in the historical tradition of the Tenebrae. The Tenebrae gives us a close look at the crucifixion. Specifically highlighting the last seven things Christ said on the cross before he died. For each quote a light is extinguished, representing the loss of the light of the world. But we know the story does not end here! We can celebrate because of the resurrection of Christ! On Easter we will see the wonderful balance to the pain caused by the crucifixion, which is the joy of Christ's resurrection!

In Part 1 of "The Lordship of Jesus," we will be exploring the concept of Jesus as Lord and the surrender and submission it requires from us to be fully devoted followers of Christ.

In Part 2 of "The Lordship of Christ," we will be exploring the authority, exclusivity and sovereignty of Jesus. We will see some of the tough truths in these things and how relevant they are to our lives today.

In Part 3 of "The Lordship of Christ," we will be exploring the eight key areas of life and how we can practically make Jesus Lord over these areas.

What does it mean to make Jesus our Lord in a very practical way? In part 4 of this series, we take a look at the way that God works within us to empower us to live towards God through our mind, our will, and our emotions.

In part 5 in "The Lordship of Jesus ," we discuss what do we do when life is painful. When the trials of life hit are we i a place of surrender to God or do we fight Him? This morning we will explore the truths of the Word on what we should do when life gets hard. We will see that surrender to the Lordship of Christ in the hard times can be when the most growth on our spiritual journey will happen.
