Serve Sunday at CrossCurrent on March 30th

Our church service will look a little different this Sunday

As a church we've been seeking the Lord about how we can be his arms and hands in our community, and to be a blessing to those around us... to bloom where we are planted in the Broadlands area of Ashburn, VA.  We believe that God is calling us to be a church that shows our ability to love by serving and meeting the needs of our community.  This call has brought to life a new local outreach ministry at CrossCurrent, called Bloom.

Through Bloom, we aim to build a bridge of relationship with those in the community surrounding CrossCurrent (Eagle Ridge Middle School) -- with businesses, schools and families -- so that we can find simple and practical ways to serve and love on them.  No strings attached!

Our first Bloom initiative is to reach out to families who live around ERMS.  We've put together simple, yet crafty, gift bags to deliver to the homes immediately surrounding the school.  The idea is to simply show families that we, as a church, are their neighbors.  We'd like them to know not only that we're here, but that we care.  The gift bag is a gesture of kindness -- our way of taking an initiative towards building a relationship so that we can work towards serving the needs of our community.

When will we be doing this?

This Sunday, March 30th will be a Serve Sunday.  Rather than the usual Sunday morning experience of worship and teaching in the auditorium, we'll spend the morning placing our focus outside the church!  We'll all meet in the cafeteria at Eagle Ridge Middle School for some prayer at 10:30AM, and then release into the neighborhoods around Eagle Ridge to deliver the gift bags, and pray over the community as we go.

How will we be doing this?

  • When you arrive to church on Sunday, make your way to the cafeteria.  Enjoy some coffee and donuts!
  • We'll give you some direction on joining one of nine different groups.  Each group will consist of up to 10 adults (plus kids!), and will deliver gift bags together in a designated neighborhood near Eagle Ridge.  Each group is also encouraged to pray over the neighborhood as they go!  We'll provide some prayer guides to help with this.
  • We'll spend a few minutes praying together, and offer some direction on the best way to deliver the gift bags and prayer walk through the community.
  • Once you deliver all the gift bags, consider grabbing some lunch with your group!

F.A.Q.'s

  • What should I bring?  Wear appropriate walking shoes, dress appropriate for the weather and for walking, and bring the stroller if you have kids.
  • Can my kids participate?  Yes, please!
  • Are the neighborhoods walking distance from Eagle Ridge?  Yes, however some are further than others.  It'll be up to your group to decide whether or not you'd like to walk or drive from the school.
  • Am I going to have to knock on people's doors?  No, please don't knock on any doors.  We are not setting out to solicit anything or to press people about their beliefs.  Simply leave the gift baggy on the doorstep in a place it can be easily found.
  • What if someone opens their door or asks me what I'm doing?  Simply say something along the lines of, "We're from a local church, and are just dropping off a gift to bless you today.  Have a great day!"  If they engage you with more questions about your church or Jesus, feel free to enjoy the conversation!
  • How many bags will be delivered?  We'll be delivering 1,000 bags!  Each group will get around 100 bags to deliver.
  • How long will it take?  It depends on how fast your group walks and distributes.  Once you arrive to your designated neighborhood, we estimate it could take anywhere from 30 - 60 minutes.
